Meet the Newest Members of the Calman Team

We are thrilled to have welcome three new members to the Calman team who have been recruited in response to the needs of young people looking to progress towards work and/or independent living in a post-Covid world.

“I was delighted to join the Calman team in September as Training Manager. I will be based in the office at Cafe Artysans for some of the week and will be working remotely, from home, for the rest of the time. My role is to support the Calman team in working with our brilliant young people, ensuring they are developing their skills and progressing to the next stage in their journeys. I have met some wonderful people since starting here, and I love the ethos of the Calman community where everyone works together towards positive change. My own employment journey has included working for different charities within the third sector, working as a primary school teacher and, more recently, managing the Art Room – a service that supported children and young people to progress through art and creativity. I have recently moved with my family from Edinburgh back to my hometown in Moray and we are enjoying new adventures in the north!”

Case Manager – Penny Deverell

“I’ve spent the last ten years working in adult social care, supporting people with autism, learning disabilities and mental health issues to live independent and fulfilling lives. After four years as a manager, I decided it was time for me to take the next step when I saw the advert for Case Manager at Calman. I couldn’t think of a nicer, more fulfilling position in which to support people to achieve their goals while developing myself as an effective manager and leader.”

“I previously worked for Calman 12 years ago, as a Transitions Coordinator, doing a 3-year pilot project working in the schools, which was challenging at times but I loved it! I have worked for the last number of years doing Transitions work at Cantraybridge college with the young people there. I am delighted to be back working for Calman again and thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome! I will be based down in Grant Street, Inverness where I will be delivering a Life Skills programme, where we will be covering all sorts of things like, problem solving, communication, budgeting, managing relationships, applying for a job and interview skills and ending up doing a work taster at Artysans.”
